![]() Whether handheld, ride-on or remote-controlled trucks, a garbage truck toy should be included in any collection. ![]() What to know before you buy a garbage truck toy One of the best garbage truck toys available is this cool Matchbox garbage truck. They can learn about the importance of recycling and how city systems work. Children can learn a lot from these trucks. Needless to say, we’ve got a long ways to go to make the garbage truck market 100% zero emissions, but there are a few key players that have been popping up - Motiv Power and BYD more frequently in years past, and Lion Electric and Mack Trucks more recently.Trucks such as garbage trucks and recycling trucks are an essential part of everyday life. (It’s not clear if that meant overall, or just meant the 9th and 10th electric refuse trucks from BYD, but I presume it means the latter.) BYD said at the time that these were just the 9th and 10th electric garbage trucks in the USA. Jumping to 2021, BYD sold two electric refuse trucks to J&M Sanitation in Idaho earlier this year. Lion Electric and Boivin Evolution started selling electric garbage trucks in 2020. Motiv Power sold a couple of electric garbage trucks of its own to Los Angeles in 2017, after launching its first electric garbage truck way back in 2013. BYD and Beijing Environmental Sanitation Engineering Group launched an electric garbage truck in China back in 2016 and BYD sold one to Palo Alto and GreenWaste in 2017. While we haven’t had a ton of electric garbage truck stories to celebrate over the years, there have been a few. Photo courtesy of Mack Trucks Electric Garbage Truck News Of Yesteryear “Since then, DSNY has been evaluating payload capacity, regenerative braking, overall vehicle performance in their demanding operations, operating range and charging requirements.” The Mack LR Electric “DSNY took delivery of its first fully electric refuse vehicle, a Mack LR Electric demonstration model, in September 2020, when it began rigorous real-world testing in Brooklyn,” Volvo group tells us. ![]() “The Mack LR Electric demonstrator is performing well, and we look forward to when we have one in each of our city’s zones.” “We look forward to our continued partnership with Mack Trucks in striving toward our environmental efforts to benefit the citizens of New York City,” said DSNY Commissioner Edward Grayson. Of course, more than 7 refuse trucks cover the streets of New York every day, so I hope the city will buy 70 more before too long, or 700 more, or 6,000 (which is its total fleet size), but at least it’s getting its foot in the door. The trucks will be collecting refuse in the Bronx, Brooklyn North, Brooklyn South, Manhattan, Queens East, Queens West, and Staten Island. Which lucky boroughs of NYC will benefit from these quiet, zero-emission, electric refuse trucks? All of them. ![]() In particular, they are the LR Electric model. The good news this month is that the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is going to order 7 electric garbage trucks from Mack Trucks, a subsidiary of Volvo Group. Unfortunately, you don’t see many orders for electric garbage trucks yet, and certainly not big orders. There isn’t the problem of drag quickly draining the battery on the highway because, for the most part, garbage trucks don’t hit the highway (even if many highways are littered with trash due to the “polite and respectful” nature of many humans). The noise and pollution of the trucks don’t wake people up 30 minutes before their alarms. Some of the electricity is recovered via regen braking in the middle of the short trips from neighbor to neighbor. The stop-start nature of garbage trucks is almost custom-made for EVs - no burning fuel as garbage trucks sit in front of one house after another lifting up garbage cans. Garbage trucks run regular, predictable routes, meaning required range is straightforward and clear. It’s one of those vehicle sectors that seems tailor made for a quick electric transformation. ![]()

![]() ![]() Some people make the sketch at the part level, and that removes the circular reference, but can create other problems. Layout is somewhere in between, because the sketch (layout sketch) is at the assembly level, and part 1 and part 2 can reference the sketch in the assembly. There is always the danger of creating circular references, or daisy chained references that require multiple passes to get everything rebuilt properly. So each reference in part 2 contains links to part 1 and assembly 1. So the reference between part 1 and part 2 contains the assembly file. Top down (in-context) is where parts reference one another in an assembly. Well, the assembly references the part, that's the extent of the references. ![]() Layout is really just an intermediate step between top down and bottom up.īottom up has no references. I don't know anything about that, but I think there is more to it than just a name in Pro. Skeleton techniques, as far as I know, started in Pro/E. It's just a really bad idea to give things like LAYOUT and PDM proper names when generic names also exist for something very similar. That feature is different from the assembly based sketch. It was in the standard SW training material from way back.Īnd then SW confused things by creating an assembly feature actually called Layout. Layout sketch has been around for a long long time as part of the software. ![]() There's a reason people ask what SSP is - because it's not really a thing. SSP is really just layout sketch technique. I may annoy some people saying this, but it's true. If you have Sketch symmetry, that centerline can be tied to the Symmetry Plane within multiple sketches for different purposes. What about multiple knobs, or asymmetry, or such? Duplicate the Right Plane with an identical Symmetry Plane and maybe even a third Lateral Knob Plane. In your drawer example, you seem to begin with the assumption that you will have one knob and it will be centered on the symmetrical plane. Then, I can relocate or flip one without affecting the other and everything else tied to the other. For example, I have a plane to determine position (Coincident, Distance) and a second identical plane to determine orientation (Parallel) which usually applies accessibility or clearances to operator handles. Unless I'm dissecting and altering the SSP, it stays hidden.ģ.b. Folders in the SSP should match default assembly folders, for greatest ease. If it begins to expand past the vertical capacity of my feature tree, I can cluster meaningful portions of the references into categorical folders. I select mate references from the tree, by name, and not in the visual workspace. I love Clutter! I name things appropriately so I can find it. I make sure that components have appropriate internal reference entities to accept useful mates upon planes and axes in the SSP.ģ.a. That's a darn good metaphor that I should remember. This means that "stem" items are entirely on the SSP refs, "branch" items are partially on the SSP refs, and "leaf" items are only related to the "branch" it is on. I mostly use Planes in the SSP for driving primary mates, and secondary mates can be tied to the primary part. Almost everything in my SSP assemblies is a purchased part, except for pipe, steel weldments, and maybe some custom parts like a containment shielding panel. This one is easy for me, and may not apply to your use. You can always implement new references within the SSP to adapt to what you had not expected.Ģ. Effective SSP, in my opinion, relies on your assessment of what variables need to be adaptable, and which are driven along with the adaptive ones. Expectations can sting: what did I expect to change, and what did I expect not to change? I am usually surprised by which is which. No, if this is a single thing produced once with the capability to change based on customer or design feedback. Yes if you will be making multiple variations of it, particularly in production volume. ![]() ![]() ![]() So if you already have it installed, you should get the new features by September, but you will still see the Planner name in the Teams desktop client. The new Tasks app is really an update to the Planner app, with new features and (eventually) a new name. ![]() The Planner app is already available inside the Teams client, but previously it showed a board view of all your Planner tasks, plus new tasks assigned to you in the main Activity feed and the full Kanban board and calendar views if you added a Planner plan to a specific channel as a tab. This approach should also reassure everyone that Planner and To Do aren’t going away in favour of a new Tasks app, because while you can see tasks in the same place, they will continue to have different features depending on the app in which they were originally created. SEE: Office 365: A guide for tech and business leaders (free PDF) (TechRepublic)īut the name for the new way to look at tasks in one place is going to change several times, in an attempt to help people who are familiar with the separate Planner and To Do tools get used to the new option. It includes a new way for firstline workers and personal users to get tasks and some other Planner features, and marks significant progress in unifying tasks across different Microsoft tools and services. The integration of Planner and To-Do into Teams as the Tasks app, announced last year at Ignite, is now finally starting to roll out, creating a single place to see tasks from multiple sources. Even when Microsoft introduced new task management tools - Planner for team tasks and To Do (based on Wunderlist) for individual tasks - that used the Exchange task format from Outlook rather than creating yet another task format, connecting the different task lists meant extra work: installing the To-Do app or Planner app in Teams, or creating Power Automate flows. For many years, Microsoft has had isolated tasks in different systems: Outlook, OneNote, Project, SharePoint and Azure DevOps all had separate task lists with no single place to see everything you needed to do. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The spacious deck is lined with built-in seating. These are the steps that your veterinarian will follow. Removing Dew Claws from Dogs – Should You Do It?ĭouble Doodle Dog Breed: Puppies, Breeders, Price, Rescue & More How Is It Done? Most of the time, the anesthetic is what will cost you the most, so you might want to combine the removal of dew claws in puppies with routine procedures like spaying and neutering. With puppies, it’s done when the bones and tissue are still soft, so it’s easier. Granted, removal of dew claws in puppies is a lot less complex than it is in adult dogs, but it’s still going to require surgery done under anesthesia. How much bone and muscle is attached to those dew claws? How complex is the operation going to be? And you’re also going to have to think about the cost. You need to think about how many dew claws have to be removed. Do you really think you’re going to deal with that using rubber band docking? You need a veterinarian, because this is going to take a surgical procedure. I’ve actually seen dogs with as many as four dew claws on a single leg. For one thing, a dog may have more than one dew claw, with muscle and tissue that are all attached together. This really isn’t a procedure that I recommend doing at home. It involves removing the entire toe, and if the breeder doesn’t get it right, there can be a bad outcome. Removal of dew claws in puppies is a bit different. It can be done at home by a competent breeder and with no pain to the dog. Do the benefits really outweigh the disadvantages? Does the procedure cause pain? Should it be done as a part of the “routine maintenance” of your dog? What I Really Hate Here Regardless of why we dock tails, though, we should consider the reasons for removing dew claws in puppies. It’s not all cosmetic, though some very active dogs can injure their tails very badly in the course of hunting or running through the woods. Simply stated, some breeds look better with little stubby tails. Is there a reason for tail docking? Yes, and I’ll be the first person to tell you that it’s primarily cosmetic. In fact, this form of “bloodless docking” is the only method that’s allowed in England. I use the bloodless docking method, which is basically snapping a rubber band at the upper joint of a puppy’s tail, where it meets the dog’s butt. Okay, let me tell you right now: I dock tails. Let me repeat: you’re not trimming a nail you are cutting off a toe. Is it painful? If done without anesthetic, yes. And yes, when you remove the dew claws, you are cutting off your dog’s toes. Much of the time, they’re removed, but what you need to know is that they’re not extra claws they’re actually extra toes. What Are Dew Claws?ĭew claws are those tiny little claws that are located on the inside of your dog’s paws, upwards on the leg from the ordinary toenails. If you haven’t read it, though, I’ll give you a brief refresher course. If you’ve read Removing Dew Claws from Dogs – Should You Do It?, then you already know the pros and cons. ![]() ![]() If you really feel that the cosmetic appeal of missing dew claws is important, then probably in the grand scheme of things, removing the dew claws is on the low end of the scale when it comes to things that you can do to harm your dog. I don’t, because I believe that dew claws are important for a dog’s balance, and I tell people who buy puppies from my litters that they will come with their dew claws intact, and that I would prefer that they not choose to have them removed. I’m not saying you should do it, or not do it. Sometimes, the reason for removal of dew claws in puppies and adult dogs is simply to prevent the possibility of injuries later in life, when dew claw get caught on things and torn. I think we can conclude that some people are going to consider the practice barbaric, while others are going to offer reasons why it should be done. In Removing Dew Claws from Dogs – Should You Do It? I talked about the reasons (and lack thereof, sometimes) for removing dew claws from dogs. ![]() ![]() You can scroll through lobbies and find open games, and players are good about specifying the kind of game they’re looking for in the description.
